Palm-lined avenues mold the quaint village of Coronado, home to the Hotel Del Coronado, the largest wooden waterfront hotel on the West Coast. Since it was built in 1887, the Victorian palace has been the hotel of choice for 14 presidents and is best known for its performance -- alongside Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon -- in 1959's "Some Like It Hot." Coronado's resort ambiance is evident in the downtown district, where its main street, Orange Avenue curves along sidewalks filled with restaurants, high-end retail, coffee shops, and bed & breakfast hotels. On the other side of town, Coronado's bayfront specialty center, the Ferry Landing Marketplace, is an enclave for dining, bike rentals, specialty shopping, and art galleries. A waterfront park, fishing pier, beach, and bayfront bike paths play host for such seasonal events as a June jazz festival and the Tuesday farmer's market. The landing is accessible from downtown San Diego, and the brief ride across the bay to the island offers a picturesque view of the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge.

Coronado's 28 miles of coastline includes the Silver Strand State Park and an expanse of public beach alongside the Hotel Del. Coronado boasts 18 public parks, several golf courses, 18 public tennis courts, 15 miles of bike paths, boating, sailing, charter yachts, and bay cruises. The Coronado Playhouse and Lambs Players Theater fill in seats for the arts, while Gondola cruises and walking tours bring unique vistas into view.
