A pensinsula, Point Loma (along with Coronado) makes up the entrance to San Diego Bay. Point Loma is also the site of a national monument, two lighthouses, tidepools, whale watching, and San Diego's irresistible skyline: to the south, spectacular bay and city views; north, ocean and coastal views. One of San Diego's more exclusive communities, homes are often situated on hillsides.

The community of Ocean Beach, home to one of San Diego's "Dog Beaches," caters to the carefree, the college student, and the community activist. Small bungalows and cottages dot the landscape most of which are rentals. Ocean Beach's main thoroughfare, Newport Avenue, brings a beach-town mix of urban and funky, from street-side restaurants and antique browsing to juice bars and discount-clothing stores.
