Vista

"Growth" is the word that defines this community -- Vista's population has doubled in the last ten years, and so has its housing developments, both luxury and affordable. With a median temperature of 74 degrees year-round, families and businesses have flocked to this community. Companies ranging from wireless communications and brace makers, from Frito-Lay to Ray Cook Golf Co., have established facilities in Vista, with operations already expanding.

Vista's growth is also evident in its retail, restaurant, and entertainment industry, with a Family Fun Center, the Wave Waterpark, and other family-oriented activities. For theatergoers, there's the newly remodeled 400-seat Avo Playhouse and the 2000-seat outdoor Moonlight Amphitheater in Brengle Terrace Park.

With its temperate climate, industrial growth, reasonable housing, and good schools, it's no wonder Vista's is among the highest growth rates in San Diego County.

San Marcos

San Marcos claims an ideal spot in the southwestern corner of North San Diego County, 90 miles from L.A. and 30 from San Diego. Its resort climate, rural setting, and affordable housing play backdrop to its strategic location for businesses, blending small-town informality with forward-looking economic development. Bordered to the west by beaches, to the east by the Laguna Mountains and the Anzo Borrego Desert, the city's 34square miles offers a commercial environment in midst of fruit orchards, horse r anches, and farms. Cultural opportunities abound: the Performing Arts Center at Palomar College showcases student and professional dramas; the California Center for the Arts in nearby Escondido offers year-round entertainment; and various music, theater, and fine arts organization are prospering as this city grows.

With its temperate weather of 77 degrees on average (with a low of 47) San Marcos also enjoys resort activity: three 18-hole golf courses (two public, one private) while world-class golf courses in La Costa are a short-distance drive. Less than ten miles away, major depratment stores dominate two large enclosed malls, while other small-town outings -- movies, bowling alleys, hiking trails, and riding stables -- round out this city's all-access attitude.
